WINSTOM-SALEM, NC¬† - Cathtek, a medical device maker, is planning to relocate to the former Curly’s Harley-Davidson dealership on Reidsville Road in Winston-Salem.

The company, which is based in the Piedmont Triad Research Park in downtown, has applied to have the dealership property rezoned from highway business to general business, according to the Winston-Salem Journal.

Cathtek, which now employs 12, plans to make the dealership home to its development and manufacturing operations and double its staff within a year of moving to the new location. The company develops different types of catheters, and in the past has teamed up with fellow research park tenant Ocular Systems on devices for eye surgeries and produced products for Winston-Salem biotech company OptiVia Medical, among others.

The rezoning case is slated to be heard by the Winston-Salem City-County Planning Board at its Nov. 10 meeting.
