This month, BIO and its partners within the Southeast will host the 2009 BIO International Convention, the largest gathering of the global biotech industry. The convention attracts the biggest names in biotech, offers key networking and partnering opportunities, and provides insights and inspiration on the major trends affecting the industry.
Recently, BIO announced keynote speakers for the event. On Tuesday, renowned AIDS activist Sir Elton John will be addressing biotech’s role in HIV/AIDS prevention and treatment. He will focus on the HIV/AIDS epidemic, how biotechnology has influenced prevention and treatment of the disease and an outlook of the challenges and solutions that lie ahead. Democratic and republican party leaders and political operatives will discuss their differing perspectives on the challenges and opportunities associated with the comprehensive reform of the U.S. healthcare system during the Wednesday keynote. The session will be moderated by Susan Dentzer of The NewsHour with Jim Lehrer, the panel will include Senator Tom Daschle, Governor Howard Dean, Senator William H. Frist, M.D, and Karl Rove.
We also will have 170 sessions in 22 tracks on the latest business opportunities, challenges, information and the newest innovations for executives, investors, scientists, and policy leaders. The Business Forum will host approximately 14,500 partnering discussions between senior level executives that will ultimately lead to new collaborations to develop promising innovations. The convention will include numerous networking opportunities for our attendees to make valuable connections.
