GSK/Pfizer HIV Collaboration to Make Home in RTP
Research Triangle Park, NC– Pharma giants GlaxoSmithKline and Pfizer will be combining their HIV portfolio to create a new company. The Raleigh News & Observer reported that the U.S. headquarters of the new venture will be in Research Triangle Park.
Pfizer and GSK both have products on the market and in the pipeline for fighting HIV. The new company will use that technology to focus solely on fighting the virus that leads to AIDS.
This new company will contract with Pfizer and GSK for research and development services, as well as invest in early stage research of HIV medicines. GSK will own 85 percent of the new company and Pfizer 15 percent.
GSK currently has its U.S. headquarters in the Research Triangle Park, as well as a manufacturing facility in Zebulon. Pfizer’s North Carolina ties include recently acquired Wyeth’s vaccine plant in Sanford and the Pfizer animal health division has locations in RTP and Maxton.
