Transfusion & Technologies, Inc. wins SEBIO shootout
ATLANTA, GA – Atlanta-based Transfusion & Transportation Technologies, Inc., an early-stage spin-out from Emory University that develops specialized automated multi-analyzers and other instrumentation for use in blood centers, was the last company standing at the end of the 2006 Southeastern BIO Investor Forum’s Early-Stage Shootout.
The 2006 Southeastern BIO (SEBIO) Forum, an annual life sciences venture capital conference for biotech execs, investors, and entrepreneurs, took place earlier in November at the InterContinental Buckhead Hotel in Atlanta, GA.
During the Forum, participants introduced their early-stage companies to selected advisory teams, which then chose four to participate in the Early-Stage Shootout. Those four companies then had the opportunity to present to the entire conference, as well as a panel of judges made up of venture capitalists. When the smoke cleared, Transfusion & Transportation Technologies had won.
SEBIO Officials reported that 430 people attended the 8th annual forum, held from November 8-10; it was one of the largest turnouts in the organization’s history. The Forum is designed to stimulate venture investment in the Southeast.
“We are especially pleased that nearly 1 in 4 attendees at this year’s Forum was an investor, and that so many high quality venture capital funds were represented,” said Rebecca Kaufman, Chair of SEBIO. “Both suggest to us that the Southeast is becoming an important center for the life sciences, and more particularly, for new company formation.”
The 2007 Southeastern BIO Investor Forum will be held November 6-8, 2007, at the Pinehurst Resort in Pinehurst, NC.
